Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Movie Review !

The National anthem started and we all stood up as it's the norm but then I didn't even have a wink of an idea that I would be standing again as the end credits start rolling naturally my senses taking over resulting in both hands clapping .. I was about to watch a biographical sports film for which I was eagerly waiting ever since I watched the first theatrical few months back . I was all excited and enthused .

We had seen films in the sports genre such as Lagaan & Chak De , both being commercial blockbusters .
Milkha Singh father's last sentence make the Tile of this film..
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag "
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is definitely a blockbuster but not a bollywood commercial potboiler . We all knew that this is a story based on real life experiences , triumphs and turbulations that Milkha Singh has lived . We have heard about him as "Flying Sikh" .. now we will be seeing his struggles and how he overcame all those . Though its about Milkha Singh's life it's not completely based on his story but it seems the Director has added some flavour to it for making it a main stream cinema . We all know the story so I won't discuss it here , rather I would like to tell what worked and what didn't according to me .

Farhan Akhtar has done a flawless job which is visible on screen . He runs along as he carries the film entirely on his shoulders. The three other departments which support Mr. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra along with Farhan are the camera , music and art department .
Farhan's dedication is visible all through the film . His body language suits the character and you should look at the way he runs . Exactly like an athlete . He shows the stress , the tiredness , anger and frustration in the necessary levels unlike his other bollywood contemporaries . I am sure if it had been some other hero , they wouldn't have done justice to this role as much as Farhan does . They have given importance to minute details like his hair too. It's not styled at all , forget styling it seems they haven't touched his hair or groomed in few scenes where he is running . There is a shot in which he starts skipping and we are shown a normal untoned body of farhan and as the shot (round trolley) progresses we see the body turning into a toned muscular body with six pack (or it is 4) . It's defnitely not an CG shot . As I have heard about this shot , he had shot at regular intervals from untoned to toned while he was building his body and had been stiched in the VFX .  Awesome dedication . Three bows to Farhan and the team .
Divya Dutta in an another unforgettable role potraying farhan's elder sister . The scenes where farhan and divya dutta meet , specially after Farhan comes home with his long desired Indian Team blazer gives you a tear or two . Emotional bonding at its best . No big dialouges , just perfect potrayal of emotions . The father's character of Milkha Singh (Art Malik) is good and so is the boy who had potrayed Milkha Singh as a child . Read somewhere that he is the son of a tea vendor at of the shooting spots . Rakesh ji spotted him and found him fit for the character to the T . He had done lots of auditions prior to this and he didnt find anyone convincing . One more reason why this kid's name is not there in wikipedia or imdb . Pawan Malhotra and Prakash raj do justice to their roles while Prakash raj has done a very minor role unlike his other character or villain roles .
The story sometiemes moves at a normal pace but at very few places it falters giving you a feeling of boredom . You might get a yawn here or there . Sonam Kapoor has tried her best to pull the film down with all her might but couldn't succeed . There is a scene where Farhan runs with a Tire tied to his waist with all his might . . It's similar to the film also . Farhan pulls the film together with all his might . Kudos to the Director and Farhan to spun an interesting film with no commercial elements and no bollywood masala .
What didn't work for me is the order of the flashback scenes . It was little confusing for me to keep a track of what is following what . There is flashback in a flashback and it comes back to the first flashback and these kinda flashbacks follow quite in a flow giving a fear of getting confused . but thank god it doesn't make you lose the story that they were telling . so as far as the story was conveyed right , this didn't seem to be a big problem to me . The film is slow at places . Sonam kapoor is in an extended cameo . She is there for just 15 to 20 minutes . I don't know why they have told us that she is the heroine .
There are no goosebump generating shots or scenes but never the less its an outstanding movie told in a very realistic way with little cinematic approach . The film is paced at 3 hours 8 minutes and there is no way the director could have cut down on the scenes as each scene is important . ( I personally feel that Sonam Kapoor's episode could have been better ) . The color tone of the flashback scenes are apt . The sound department had done a neat job . The editing is marvellous .

All in all a complete film packed for family audiences . I think peope who were acting lazy with their body will hit the gym with a vengeance after watching this . Atleast I am going to do ;)
Dont think " Koi gal nahi , tv mein dekhanga " as it's gonna take a long while like a film like this to come on tv and aise films ko theatre mein dekhenge to hi mazaa hien .
Like farhan says .. Aahoo .. Bhaag .. apni nazdeeki cinema hall tak aur pakdo bhaag milkha bhaag ko ..
The Story had unfolded very beautifully & aesthetically :)

p.s It was very pleasing and blissful to watch our Team members Names in the end credits and was proud to see my name in it along with others (though I was a miniscule part ) . Great and Fantabulous work Pixion .. Like Always :)
